Essential Mode and Comprehensive Mode
This website operates in two Modes

The Essential Mode leaves out non-essential information, providing a quick overview without diving into details. It is for those who are pushed for time and don't have the patience to read the whole story on a small screen device such as a Smartphone or iPhone.

The Comprehensive Mode presents an uncut version of the information for a comprehensive picture. It is for those who are not in a rush and want to know more than just the essential information and who appreciate a bigger screen, such as a Tablet or iPad or PC.

The Mode selection is determined by the width of the display window.

The breakpoint is set at 960 pixels.

  • A display width smaller than 960 pixels activates the Essential Mode .

  • A display width wider than 960 pixels activates the Comprehensive Mode.

Smartphone / iPhone
A Smartphone display in Portrait Format operates at around 480 pixels - this is below the breakpoint and the Essential Mode is activated.

A Smartphone display in Landscape Format operates at a width of 600 or 720 pixels (depends on the make and model) - as this is still below the breakpoint the Essential Mode is activated, although with a wider display than in Portrait Format.

This means, unless your smartphone in Landscape format has a display width of 960 pixels or wider, the Comprehensive Mode cannot be activated on a Smartphone.

Tablet / iPad
A Tablet or iPad display in Portrait Format operates at less than 960 pixels (depends on the make and model) - this is less than the breakpoint and the Essential Mode is activated.

When the Tablet or iPad is in Landscape Format the display width is wider than 960 pixels (depends on the make and model). This is wider than the breakpoint and the Comprehensive Mode is activated.

By holding the Tablet in Portrait or in Landscape format you can toggle between the Essential Mode and the Comprehensive Mode.

Personal Computer (PC)
A modern Personal Computer typically has a display resolution of  1280x768 for a Laptop and 1920x1080 for a desktop computer. Their display width of 1280 or 1920 pixels are well over the breakpoint of 960 pixels.

However, it is not the PC's display resolution determining the activation of the  Essential Mode or Comprehensive Mode. It is the width of the web browser's display window and that can be adjusted. You can change it from full screen and narrow it down to 480 pixels.

Whilst the display window sizes of a Smartphone, iPhone, Tablet and iPad are predefined by the make and model and cannot be adjusted, the PC's web browser display window size can be altered when required.

Page Map (Menu Map)
Navigating across a complex website can be challenging on a small screen device, in particular when operated in Portrait mode. There is not enough space for a multi-level menu; implemented as top-bar menu, side-bar menu or Hamburger menu. On a  desktop or laptop computer (Landscape mode) there is sufficient space for a multi-level top-bar or side-bar or Hamburger menu.

With the narrow screen of a smartphone in mind a "Page Map" or (Menu Map) has been created. On a narrow screen all menu items can be presented sequentially; scroll up or down the list of menu items and tap to select.

The coexisting "Subject Map" or (Topic Map) also contains the 3rd level menu items, presenting a list of  subjects. This  should be the quickest way to jump to a topic. It's worth trying.
